Drugs and Gangs are not my Heritage

In celebration of Heritage Month, Sanca Central Rand Alcohol and Drug Centre , teamed up with the community of Westbury along with its various stakeholders to host the first of its kind, human chain against drugs and gang-related violence in Westbury, proving that Drugs and Gangs are not our Heritage.

This event was held in honor of those who died at the hands of drugs. This event was also held to encourage the community of Westbury to take hands and work together. We can only fully eradicate drugs and gangs if we work on strategies as a collective, thus creating a better Westbury for all.

The various school children from Westbury Primary School, Westbury Secondary School, Dowling Primary School, Everest Primary School, Newclare Primary School, and Bernard Isaacs Primary School chanted war cries like “Genoeg is genoeg, ons is dik van tik, drugs maak klaar en Jesus maak nxa.” A keynote speaker who addressed the crowd made use of the following phrase: United we stand and divided we fall.

Was this the dawning of a new era for the community of Westbury? Only time will tell.

Welcome to the Westbury Youth Centre. WYC, for short, aims to empower young men and women through creative and entrepreneurial engagement, building the mind, skills, and soul of the Westbury Community. Together with local and international partners, we’ve invested in ensuring that youth develop the leadership, technical, and life skills to earn a livelihood. Whether it’s landing a first job, growing a business, or driving social change, every young person deserves the opportunity to realize his or her full potential. Rooted in the belief of youth as problem-solvers, change-makers, and leaders, our initiatives are catalysts for change and underpinned by a strong life skills component. Our programs include Computer Training, Call Centre Training, Media, Performing Arts, Voice Training, and Music Production.
